Conservation and Sustainable Development of Great Wall Settlements in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region: A Perspective Based on the Coupling of Heritage and Ecology

Founded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, this book proposed for the first time the theoretical concept of the "heritage–ecology" coupled unit as a comprehensive spatial analytical framework for addressing the intertwined challenges of heritage conservation and locally based sustainable development. Focusing on the settlements along the Great Wall in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region built in the Ming Dynasty, the volume systematically examines the classification of heritage elements, the spatial distribution of garrison settlements, and their morphological typologies. Integrating satellite, aerial, and ground-based remote sensing technologies, it establishes a "Digital Twin of the Great Wall Settlements" model and explores pathways for ecological risk assessment, heritage interpretation, and sustainable rural development. By reconciling eco-cultural conservation and socio-economic revitalization, the book provides a scientifically grounded paradigm for the conservation and development of large-scale linear heritage corridors.
